Riboflavin is a B Vitamin and its other name is Vitamin B2. All B vitamins are water soluble, making the body easier to assimilate them. Water solubility also means that human body is incapable of storing B-Vitamins for later usage. We need to ingest B-Vitamins on daily basis. You may have heard a lot about vitamins and B-Vitamins. I would like to explain a little known fact about B-Vitamins and that is DNA repair. DNA is building block of human bodies. Cancer is so difficult to treat because it generates the faulty DNA pairs. Our body has elaborate mechanism to deal with faulty DNAs. Aberrant DNA is either thrown out or is repaired. The repair mechanism is done by the enzymes. Interestingly these repair enzymes are similar in structure to B-Vitamins.

Riboflavin is essential to make energy by breaking up the fats. From the sixth grade we have been reading that B-Vitamins are found in green leafy vegetables, cheese etc etc. However the text books fail to mention that B-Vitamins like Riboflavin easily degrade while cooking or even just soaking the vegetables in water.

Severe Riboflavin deficiency shows itself in the form cracked lips especially at the ends. Dry skin, mouth and throat ulcers and sore throat

Riboflavin is also necessary for the proper Iron metabolism in the body.

A good B-Vitamin supplement manufactured by some reputed manufacturer is the easiest and convenient way of fulfilling the daily requirement. However the supplement should always be taken between the meals so that body can absorb it.
